Award follows thorough assessment of company's Environment Management System and waste management practices
Gulf Extrusions, a leading global manufacturer of extruded aluminum products, has announced that it has received the Green Industry Award 2013 from Dubai Municipality in recognition of the company's exemplary environmental achievements over the past years. The award, which was presented to Gulf Extrusions in the large industry category, specifically recognised its high-impact environmental efforts, following Dubai Municipality's thorough assessment of the company's Environment Management System and waste management practices.
Modar Al Mekdad, General Manager of Gulf Extrusions, received the award from Engineer Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, during an award ceremony held recently at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai.
Commenting on the award, Al Mekdad said, "In recent years, Gulf Extrusions has initiated a range of environment-friendly programs in line with our broader corporate social responsibility agenda and commitment to sustainable development practices. This recognition from Dubai Municipality validates our genuine efforts to protect natural resources and reduce our carbon footprint, with the underlining goal of making our environment cleaner and greener. The award also inspires us to continue investing in latest technologies that can result in significant environmental benefits on the long term."
Last year, Gulf Extrusions received the inaugural Gulf Aluminium Council (GAC) Environmental Awards 2012 under the Downstream Aluminium Companies category, in recognition of the company's focus on innovation and leadership to achieve sustainable environmental performance and for lowering stack emissions. The company has also been focusing heavily on reducing waste through recycling, while also increasing greenery around its factory in Dubai.
Gulf Extrusions is also the first extrusions firm in the GCC region to supply X-ECO, alloys made from recycled aluminium, which offer significant benefits such as CO2 reduction of to nearly 50 per cent compared to exploiting primary aluminium; reduction in the overall consumption of energy when used in buildings; far-reaching recycling options; maximum use of recycled aluminium; and high grade quality.
Gulf Extrusions, a part of the Al Ghurair Group of Companies, produces aluminum extruded profiles ranging from architectural sections to components for air conditioning grills, furniture, marine applications, transportation, automotive, and customized products. It also extrudes products for several European customers and companies. It recently became the first extrusion company in the GCC region to receive the Emirates Quality Mark certification from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).
