DMA's Cutting Edge Technology Showcases Project

Abu Dhabi, April 18, 2010:  Cityscape 2010's opening day saw the Department of Municipal Affairs' stand draw significant official and public visitor numbers as it showcased 30 sustainable development projects in Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Western Region Municipalities.

Cityscape Abu Dhabi, which witnessed a %5 increase in exhibitors this year, was opened by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Chief of the Court of the Crown Prince. 

DMA showcased current and future projects in different areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in a modern 540 sqm stand backed by 4D visual technology.  These projects will play a major role in delivering a better quality of living for the residents of the Emirate, in addition to achieving sustainable development all through Abu Dhabi.

Commenting on DMA's participation in cityscape, H.E. Rashid Mubarak Al Hajeri, Chairman of Department of Municipal Affairs, said "Abu Dhabi is going trough a phase of tremendous development, and this is due to the vision of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and the guidance and support of HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in developing Municipal projects all over the Emirate, which will make the Abu Dhabi government one of the leading ambitious governments in the world. "

H.E. Ahmed Shareef, Undersecretary of the DMA delivered the keynote speech at the Cityscape Conference in which he emphasized the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's resilience in the face the current economic turbulence.

Stressing his confidence in a diversified economic future for Abu Dhabi in which construction and real estate will play a significant role, he also noted the importance of providing a welcoming and conducive environment through productive public/private partnerships (PPP). 

"We are proud to play a central and effective role in achieving the vision and goals of the Emirate.  Through our participation, we are working hard to be decently envisioned in parallel to the size and importance of the projects we are implementing.  These projects will set forth a great future that delivers a better quality of life to achieve a sustainable living environment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi," concluded HE Al Hajeri.

About Department of Municipal Affairs
The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) commenced operations in May 2007, following the Abu Dhabi Executive Council's decision to integrate the Emirate's municipal system. As a new government entity, the Department of Municipal Affairs was created to lead, coordinate and oversee three municipalities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.  The DMA has a regulatory role while the service delivery and operations are at the municipality level.

On the 5th of May 2008, the Department of Municipal Affairs along with the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality and Western Region Municipality embarked upon a new municipal services journey, with the signing of the historic Municipal Charter which aligns the DMA and three municipalities towards greater collaboration and cooperation.
