Beirut: Diageo Lebanon announced that it will start implementing a 6-month paid maternity and paternity leave policy for its employees, becoming by that the first ever company to do so in Lebanon. This decision comes as part of a global roll-out of ambitious parental leave policy from the spirits company. The policy will be implemented in all countries and on all employees as of the first of July this year, regardless of how long they have been a part of the company.
George Rbeiz, General Manager Diageo Middle East & North Africa says, “We know that the first few months after a baby is born are the hardest, and we wanted to do our part in making it easier. This is why we decided to follow our global policy instead of the local law and offer a 6 months paid maternity leave.” Rbeiz explained that the new policy is about building confidence in employees and changing the conversation around work and parenthood. “We all understand the significance of the mother’s presence in the life of their baby, but what about the father’s? Giving fathers a 6-month fully paid paternity leave is us acknowledging the important role a father plays in raising families.”
This policy comes as part of Diageo’s commitment to creating a fully inclusive and diverse workforce and its strong belief that businesses play a significant role in shaping the future of society.
It is worth noting that in 2018, the company was named by Thompson Reuters as the fourth most inclusive and diverse company in the world. 40 percent of Diageo’s executive committee and 44 percent of Diageo’s board are women, establishing the company as a leader in workforce inclusion and diversity.
