Mr. Majid AlShamsi, 2nd Vice-President of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) received at his office yesterday Mr. Christopher Beale, Chairman of the UK  Institute of Directors,  in the presence of Mr. Abdulrahman Al Mutaiwee, Director-General of the DCCI, Dubai Ethics Resource Center's Executive Committee members, Ms. Amna Al Jallaf, of the DCCI's Board of directors,  Mr. Matt Anderson, Merck Sharp & Dhome, Public Affairs Manager-Gulf region, Mr. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Shell External Affairs Manager and Mr. Alex Zalami, Dubai Ethics Resource Center Director.          

Mr. Beale is in Dubai to facilitate today's inaugural meeting of the Corporate Directors Leadership Forum.  The Forum is a DERC sponsored membership organization promoting high standards of corporate governance among local & regional company Boards.  The Forum's first meeting is focusing on Board accountability.

In their meeting, Mr. Beale and Mr. Al Shamsi discussed adapting world class standards of board governance to the region and how Dubai can use its position to foster positive change throughout the region.

Mr. Al Shamsi said that "Dubai is at a crossroads - our private sector organizations are becoming important international players.  And as such, they must demonstrate leading business practices and standards to serve both as a model for the region, and provides a regional contribution to the continued development of international governance standards."

The Forum serves the needs of corporate directors of leading Gulf business organizations to address issues of good governance and exchange best practices. It promotes high standards that are consistent with international best practices.  It also provides directors with briefings on core topics of corporate governance, networking opportunities to meet peers whose companies are engaged in regional and international benchmarking, customized executive seminars to members of their boards on topics of special interest and other support services.

The Forum is launched by the Dubai Ethics Resource Center as a foundational framework for a future Institute of Directors serving the region.
