3rd-Generation Green Switches reduce power consumption even further by implementing D-Link's innovative power-saving technology

Dubai, THE UAE, February 13, 2011 - D-Link Middle East & Africa today announced it will begin to ship its third generation Green Ethernet switches that comply with the new IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard. The new IEEE 802.3az compliant switches are capable of reducing power consumption by up to 85 percent*, helping businesses to cut the operating costs of their IT equipment.

IEEE 802.3az is the first standard in the history of Ethernet to tackle proactive reduction in energy consumption for networked devices. This standard defines the mechanisms and protocols for reducing energy consumption of network links during periods of low utilization. IEEE 802.3az interfaces transfer into a low-power state without interrupting the network connection.

As the first to introduce power-saving Green technology in 2007, D-Link continues to lead the industry by pioneering innovative green technology products. This third generation release of D-Link Green™ switches is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3az EEE standard, thus re-emphasizing D-Link's strong commitment to developing more energy-efficient products.

"We will continue to build on the momentum of our success with our first and second generation green products, as we seek new avenues to protect the environment and help our customers save money in the process," said Harrison Albert, Regional Sales Director at D-Link Middle East & Africa. "It is our goal to take the lead in providing real benefits to our customers and offering better energy saving features without sacrificing performance," he concluded.

Currently, D-Link switch models compliant with the IEEE 802.3az standard include the DGS-1005D/5G and DGS-1100-16/24, with more models to be available soon.

*Maximum power saving when compared to a D-Link conventional switch. Up to 85 percent less energy is used when connected devices are EEE-compliant and network traffic is low.

About D-Link Green™
D-Link Green™ technology conserves energy by recognizing when a port is active or inactive, and adjusting power accordingly. Most home, small office home office (SOHO) and business users can benefit from the power adjustment as they do not require the perpetual use of their computers or the use of all the ports on their switches. D-Link Green™ is also capable of altering power usage relative to the length of its cable. This can help conserve energy used for both the user and the environment without any loss of performance. D-Link Green™ now implements the newly ratified IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard for reducing the energy consumption of network links during periods of low utilization by transitioning interfaces into a low-power state without interrupting the network connection.
