Broadcast Middle East Launches Second Farsi Language Entertainment Channel
Dubai, UAE, Sunday 3rd July 2011 - Following the successful launch of Farsi1 in 2009, Broadcast Middle East ("BME"), a joint venture between News Corporation and MOBY Group, is today announcing the launch of a second Farsi language entertainment channel - Zemzemeh. Zemzemeh, which in English means 'whisper' or 'hum', will target a family audience with a skew towards women.
Debuting on air on the evening of 9th July, Zemzemeh features a mix of popular, quality programs from the US, Europe, South America and Korea. Its programming line-up includes favorites such as Project Runway, Gypsies, Queen of the South and The Betrayal. The Betrayal's anchor star, Cuban actor Mario Cimarro, is already a huge hit among Farsi speaking audiences through FARSI1.
BME aims to replicate, with Zemzemeh, the success of FARSI1, one of the most popular and widely viewed Farsi language channels, with a similarly dynamic mix of Farsi dubbed programming, quality and engaging content and special programs which appeal to its loyal audience base.
Zaid Mohseni, CEO of BME comments: "The early and incredible success of FARSI1 is a testament to BME's understanding of and connection with its Farsi speaking audience. It is clear from our research and from listening to our audiences that there is room for other channels offering high quality entertainment but geared more towards women.
"Zemzemeh is offering more of the first class viewing that FARSI1 already provides. We can't wait for the feedback from our loyal audience and clients and we're particularly excited about the prospect of connecting with the more discerning female audience in the region."
As with FARSI1, Zemzemeh will be available to more than 100 million Farsi speaking community across the Middle East and Central Asia. The channel is transmitted via Du, e-vision and Eutelsat W3A, a popular satellite that has a footprint covering Iran, GCC (including the UAE), Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Eutelsat W3A has cornered 88% penetration across satellite homes in the Middle East.
BME is expanding its Dubai Studio City headquarters by adding 35 people to its headcount and 4,000 square foot to its office space to cater for the new channel launch and to facilitate the production of original Farsi-language content in the near future.
