The headquarters of Pacific Controls is the first Platinum rated Green building in the Middle East and sixteenth in the world

Dubai - Pacific Control Systems, a total automation solutions provider with operations around the world, today inaugurated its headquarters in Techno Park, Dubai. The headquarter building is the first Platinum rated green building accredited by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) pogramme in the Middle East and sixteenth in the world.

The inauguration event was attended by senior officials and dignitaries. Mr. Sandy Wiggins, Chairman, USGBC, also attended the event.

Commenting on the inauguration of the headquarters, Mr. Dilip Rahulan, Chairman and CEO, Pacific Controls, said: "We are proud to unveil our headquarters today. Our headquarter building is built in line with our commitment to the UAE government's drive towards achieving sustainable development in the region. It is our belief that our initiative will set a new benchmark for other green development projects in the UAE and elsewhere, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility."

He added: "Pacific Controls is committed to develop and implement concepts of technology for sustainable development in the realm of automation, infrastructure development, facilities management and green and sustainable buildings."

As part of the inauguration event of its headquarters, Pacific Controls today launched a document on Technology for Sustainable Development. The document is a blueprint towards developing technologies to create a more sustainable society.

The award winning headquarter building has achieved LEED certification from the USGBC, accumulating a total of 55 points, a Platinum rating, and the first ever accrued to date for any newly constructed building in UAE seeking such a certification. The stunning campus has already won two international awards in 2007: Extreme Office Building in the world "Digie Award" against Taipei 101 and Shaghai Financial Centre; Best Intelligent Building in the World in Chicago 2007.

The Green Building has minimal impact on the environment through energy and water conservation; waste minimization and recycling; and no green house gas emissions. Providing employees with a healthy and unique experience helps Pacific Controls to create the best environment for creativity and high productivity.

The building highlights the use of renewable energies such as photovoltaic panels, which cover the roof of the building feeding the complete requirement of lighting during the day. The panels also shade the roof reducing the heat gain into the building and the cooling load requirement.

The other application use is the concept of solar thermal cooling. A solar collector farm of hot water panels producing hot water at 90 degree centigrade is the primary feed to run a 100 ton absorption chiller whose capacity covers 25 per cent of the building design cooling load. Water efficiency is achieved by using a sewerage treatment plant and two underground concrete tanks, All water and sewerage is collected in one tank and then transferred to the treatment plant, which processes the water and feeds it into the other tank as grey water. This is then used for irrigation purpose and make up water for the mechanical plant.

The building has many other environment friendly ergonomic and unique and architectural features. It can accommodate up to 700 employees and is a showcase where clients and developers can see and explore real working examples of automation solutions working to ensure that the energy and environmental objectives of the building are achieved.

All building control systems for air conditioning and ventilation, access control, CCTV, fire alarm, audio-video chillers, lighting and power are functioning on a single integrated IP backbone. These are fully integrated using industry standard open protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus and web services such as XML/SOAP/HTTP. All energy consumption within the building is monitored and tracked in real time to ensure that the consumption is optimized and targeted costs are achieved.

Pacific Controls has pioneered the concept of knowledge process outsourcing in the automation and facilities management industries and has established the world's first Global Command Control Centre at its headquarters in Dubai. The Centre serves the automation and facilities management industries by enabling the monitoring and management of global assets. Using state of the art technologies, the Global Command Centre brings outstanding value prepositions for global asset managers. The technology offers reduced utilization of manpower and tracking of energy consumption in real time, which leads to bottom line improvements.
