Kuwait - 13 March 2012: In line with its continued efforts to maintain the highest standards in medical practice, Dar Al Shifa hospital hosted a special workshop on 'Trace Methodology and Patient Safety' on the 4th, 5th & 6th of March. Attended by the hospital's clinical and non clinical staff, the workshop was aimed at improving patient safety practices and utilizing the techniques of Tracer methodology to ensure compliance in procedures.
A program of speeches, video presentations and group activities, showcased techniques for the staff to use in order to measure the safety levels in the day-to-day clinical practices. The attendees were also introduced to an interactive process which shall help them in identifying areas of improvement.
Ms. Sandra Kearns, an expert in Corporate Risk assessment and patient safety program developer from Canada conducted the workshop. "It has been identified in the recent decades that well-meant healing procedures can sometimes have an adverse effect on the patient," she stated. "Thus resulting in a new category in medicine, Patient Safety, this focuses on identifying and eliminating avoidable mistakes from the various procedures."
"In the field of medicine, there is something new to learn every day, be it the discovery of new diseases or the founding of an improved patient-care procedure," commented Kris Gustavson, an expert in Accreditation and Patient Services activities. "Procedures for patient-care are a matter of sensitive nature, and require careful attention to detail, and a willingness to continuously upgrade and improve. Dar-Al-Shifa recognizes that, and hence it placed a lot of significance on this workshop."
Tracer methodology is an evaluation method in which surveyors select a patient, or process and uses this as a roadmap to evaluate the organization's compliance with the standards and systems of providing care and services. Training in this methodology helps the clinical staff deeply involved in the clinical process and thus ensuring the delivery of safe & quality health care.
Dar Al Shifa Hospital continues to ensure that patient services remain at the highest standard, and therefore the staff is required to go through monthly training sessions and workshops.
Dar Al Shifa Hospital was established in 1963 as the first private hospital in the State of Kuwait. It began as a private maternity care hospital, and has since then steadily grown to encompass a wide spectrum of healthcare services.
