Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 27 January 2009 - The new year sees a new leadership at the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers. The flagship Sheraton hotel in Dubai, has appointed Heinz F. Grub to helm the 5-Star property who is also acting as the Area Manager of Dubai for Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The baton was passed over to Heinz Grub by Thomas van Opstal, who led the Management team for four years.
The hotel was under the successful leadership of van Opstal who is joining Sheraton Abu Dhabi as its General Manager and acting as the Area Manager of Abu Dhabi for Starwood.
Besides managing the operations of the hotel as the General Manager, Heinz Grub's area responsibility involves overseeing the operations of all the seven (7) Starwood properties in Dubai which include Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort & Towers, Sheraton Deira Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road, Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai, Four Points by Sheraton Downtown, Al Sondos Suites and Dar Al Sondos Apartments. He will be leading the team in the expansion of the Sheraton footprint and development of Starwood portfolio in Dubai.
German-born Grub arrives in Dubai from Cape Town, South Africa, after a 2-year stint as the Chief Operation Officer and Area Manager of Arabella South Africa Holdings (Pty) Ltd and General Manager of Westin Grand Cape Town Arabella Quays. His responsibilities included total operation for the Westin as well as the overall responsibility of the Arabella Western Cape Hotel & Spa, Arabella Golf Estate, the Paulaner Brauhaus Micro Brewery and restaurants at Cape Towns V&A Waterfront, as well as developments of new properties within South Africa and Namibia.
Bringing with him 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Heinz Grub started his journey as the Food & Beverage Controller/Trainee at the Munich and Frankfurt Sheraton Hotels, Germany back in year 1974 after completing his education in Hotel Management in Cornell University, New York.
Grub is a seasoned management executive, with extensive U.S. and international experience covering Turkey, Hong Kong, Egypt, Syria, Belgium, and with a career path that took him from Le Royal Meridien Cairo and Nile Tower as their Hotel Manager and Acting General Manager, to Morocco as the General Manager of Le Royal Mansour Meridien and Area Director of Maghreb most recently.
With an impressive track record, Heinz Grub is looking forward to spearhead the property into sustainable growth, and giving emphasis on new strategies and initiatives of solidifying Starwood brands' position in Dubai for the future.
