SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates: The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has signed an agreement with global business software leader SAP to join the SAP University Alliance program (UAP). The initiative provides university faculty members with the tools and resources needed to teach students how technology can help enable integrated business processes and strategic thinking - and gives graduates the skills needed to add immediate value to the market.
AUS is the 16th educational institute in the Middle East to sign-up to the SAP University Alliance program, joining 1000 tertiary institutions and around 150,000 students from around the world who are already learning SAP solutions.
University Alliances member schools gain access to the SAP Business Suite family of solutions, including SAP ERP. The comprehensive business software suite supports business, engineering and information technology programs, enabling students to put classroom theory into practice through demonstrations, exercise and problem solving, case studies, and research programs.
"We are absolutely delighted to become a member of the SAP-University Alliance," said Ernie Love, Head of Management Information Systems in the School of Business and Management at AUS. "SAP is clearly the global leader in providing business software solutions and we need to have our students trained in both the 'how' and 'why' of Enterprise-Wide Resource Planning software solutions. For global firms, ERP is now the necessary way of doing business and this program will help us stimulate the development of our students and jump-start their career."
"Business Analytics helps transform the way companies operate by providing greater insights from the massive amount of data available to them, thereby enabling employees from across the organization to derive greater context and meaning, and drive increased efficiency and productivity," said Sam Alkharrat, managing director, SAP Middle East and North Africa. "Through our alignment with the American University of Sharjah, we are offering businesses across the region the opportunity to tap into the talent and resources required to apply enterprise software to real-world business scenarios that will help them drive top-line and bottom-line growth".
Through hands-on experience with SAP solutions, program members gain insight into how technology can empower businesses to optimize key processes such as accounting and controlling, human capital management, project planning, plant and materials management, and sales and distribution.
AUS was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, who envisioned the university as a leading educational institution in the Gulf region. AUS is an independent, not-for-profit coeducational institution and is thoroughly grounded in Arab culture. It is part of a larger process of the revitalization of intellectual life in the Middle East and serves students from the region and around the world.
