23 June 2004

Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation (AHF) Vice President, Mrs. Leila El Solh, presented the Wadi Khaled Health and Social Center (WKHSC) with a donation comprising medical equipment, an ambulance, and $50,000 on behalf of AHF.

The donation came at the instructions of HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, chairman of AHF, in response to a request from WKHSC to help expand its community reach.

The center is located in a small village in the northern Lebanese Akkar region. There are 22 villages in the area which is close to Mount Akroum with its 7 villages. This brings the total population served by the much-needed center to about 50,000.

The main services provided by the center cover natal and post-natal care, neo-natal facilities, along with immunization and chronic patient medication programs. Additionally, the center offers free health services to 9,000 school children from the area.

The center also offers important social services such as adult education to eradicate illiteracy, training in hand crafts to provide job opportunities for women, as well as cultural activities. The center also instigates annual awareness programs.
