Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) organised a unique gergaoon celebration at the Alba Club on Saturday, August 13, 2011 in honour of Bahrain's senior citizens who are currently residents of different retirement homes in Bahrain.

The event was organised in coordination with the Muharraq Parents Care Home and the Alba Community Service Committee.

As a tangible demonstration of Alba's corporate social responsibility during the holy month of Ramadan, it provided an opportunity to recognise the contribution that the senior citizens have made to life in Bahrain and also for their exemplary service to the community.

Alba's volunteers along with their families participated in this celebration. Their presence brought delights to each of the senior citizens present and brought back cherished memories of their own childhood years.

Alba's Chief Supply Chain Officer, Isa Al Ansari, and high officials from the company attended the event.

Commenting on the Gergaoon celebrations for the senior citizens, Alba's Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt said:

"The holy month of Ramadan is a special time for everyone in Bahrain, and offers the perfect opportunity to do good to others especially to the elderly in our community. These are the people whose sacrifices contributed in shaping the life we lead today, and whose lives we honour for the great service rendered to the community. As a company that is deeply committed towards fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities, we believe that this gergaoon celebration is also an acknowledgment of their pioneering role in Bahrain's development through the years."

The gergaoon celebrations involved traditional band that performed the Alfuraisa dance, henna painting, falcon display, competitions, live DJ, distribution of gifts and gergaoon bags. There was also a sale of handicraft items prepared by the senior citizens.
