JEDDAH: The joint maneuver Gulf Shield 10 will begin on Saturday in the Eastern Province with the participation of military forces from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries along with Saudi forces.

The massive exercise is considered one of the largest in the region both in terms of the number of forces and participating countries, and wide experience and quality of arms.

It aims to preserve security and stability in GCC countries by tackling the sources of instability and danger, training on the command and control’s procedures of the participating Gulf forces, modernizing the joint mechanisms and measures of military and security agencies and promoting coordination, cooperation and integration as well as joint security.

Land, air, sea and air defense forces from participating countries are taking part in the maneuver, along with Saudi forces such as the Royal Saudi Land Forces, the Royal Saudi Air Forces, the Air Defense Forces and the Saudi Royal Naval Forces.

The Gulf Shield forces command is also participating in the exercise, along with forces from the National Guards and Border Guards.

Gulf Shield 10 is one of the largest exercises in the region and is considered part of a comprehensive strategic vision by the Saudi Defense Ministry that aims to promote security and military readiness under different circumstances, to preserve stability and security in the Arab Gulf and the world.
