The twinning project between the Court of Auditors of Tunisia and the French, Portuguese and British Court of Auditors closed at a seminar held Friday in Tunis.

This project on institutional capacity building of the court of auditors seeks to improve public finance by enhancing accountability and transparency.

This three-year project worth 1.5 million euros (1 euro =2.3 dinars) has made use of more than 30 European experts, European Ambassador in Tunis Laura Baeza said.

She noted that adopting transparency and control requires a thorough review of mechanisms of public funds management.

For the First President of the Court of Auditors Abdellatif Kharat, the project was an opportunity to initiate a reflection on the reform of internal structures of the court of auditors, review of the functioning of its various authorities and development of its services by learning from the experiences of similar institutions and training in audit.

The twinning project allowed developing new draft laws adapted to the new Constitution as well as the preparation of guides to monitoring in some fields.

Economy and Finance Minister Hakim Ben Hammouda said the new Constitution reaffirms in its articles 10 and 117 the key role of the court of auditors in the public finance management.

He emphasised the role of the court in the good management of public funds in the coming years, taking into consideration the decline of financial resources and the increase in expenditures due to the economic difficulties facing the country.
