Mubasher: The Federal Employment Agency on Wednesday announced that the number of unemployed in Germany’s labor market declined 5.2% month-on-month in May, against expectations, from 5.3% in April.

Jobless rate went down by 11,000 in May, hitting the lowest level since January 1992, the official data showed.

Economists in Wall Street Journal had expected a fall in jobless number by 10,000 in May, according to MarkeWatch.

"The positive trend in the labor market continues, albeit less pronounced than in the winter months," Detlef Scheele, the head of the agency, commented.

Early in May, the Federal Statistical Office posted that Germany's annualised growth rate slowed to 1.2% in the first quarter of 2018 from 2.5% in Q4-17.
