Zamil Air Conditioners  (ZAC) was recently honoured with an award from Sanyo for reaching a milestone of 1 million compressor purchases over a six-year period, during which Japanese company provided exclusive sourcing. The successful, strategic Middle East partnership of the two businesses began nine years ago with ZAC supplying branded air conditioners to the company's operations in the Middle East-North Africa region.

Osama F. Bunyan, ZAC executive vice-president, expressed appreciation and satisfaction to the Sanyo management for their support and service, reiterating the depth of the long-term commitment of both companies to continue their successful partnership.

The Japanese company's compressor production began 37 years ago. Current capacity is reported at 11.5 million units, manufactured at four diverse locations with market share estimated at 17 per cent worldwide.

ZAC selected Sanyo compressors for use in the development of the company's new super-quiet products, pioneering the use of tropicalised rotary compressors in the region.

The company's engineers worked closely with Zamil design engineers to ensure that Sanyo's compressors meet the stringent technical requirements of the air-conditioner company on performance, sound level and reliability tests. The two companies are currently exploring possibilities for expanding the relationship to leverage Zamil's expertise in the manufacturing of mini-split and packaged air conditioners for the Middle East market under the original equipment-manufacturing licence agreement.
