Yemen and Eritrea yesterday opened a new chapter in their relations, moving past their misunderstandings following Isaias Afwerkis visit to Sanaa.
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said, There arent any more misunderstandings between Yemen and Eritrea and what happened was something of the past and a new chapter is being opened.
Addressing a joint press conference with Afwerki, Saleh said the misunderstandings over the thorny issue of fishing rights in the southern parts of the Red Sea were resolved. The two sides later signed an agreement on the issue.
He also made it clear that the tripartite coalition of Yemen, Sudan and Ethiopia will not form an axis against Eritrea and that it will be only an economic assembly open to all.
Im going to Khartoum to attend a tripartite meeting, and Ill be conveying a message to brothers in Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea that every one of them should accept the other and that dialogue should be adopted by all, Saleh said.
He pointed out that the talks with the Eritrean President focused on exchanges of information on combating terror.
Furthermore, eight agreements will be signed during the anticipated visit of the Yemeni President to Asmara on January 24.
Afwerki said the steps taken for the establishment of a joint company for hunting and cooperation are a big achievement.
We went beyond all difficulties. Our status today is better than ever before and we are even more ready to implement what we agreed upon because the situation in the region dictates us to play more effective roles, the Eritrean President said.
