Woqod (Qatar Fuel Company) is all set to open two more technical inspection centres "Fahes" at Al Mamoura and Wadi Al Banat by the second quarter of this year.

The company is also constructing 11 more petrol stations (which are now at design phase), apart from opening five new service centres and expanding two of its existing petrol stations this year.

These were announced by Woqod board to shareholders at an annual general assembly meeting, presided over by its chairman HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah.

The company said work on Fahes in Al Mamoura has been completed and the centre has been fully equipped. "It is currently in preliminary trial phase and expected to be officially inaugurated in the second quarter," the directors said in a report.

On the Wadi Al Banat centre, it said it will start a preliminary track phase leading to official inauguration during the second quarter this year, in arrangement with a French company specialised in the field.

Besides these two new centres and the fixed centre at the company's headquarters in the Industrial City, there are four specialised portable inspection stations in service.

The operations of these stations cover Mesaimeer, Al Khor and Al Wakrah. The portable stations are dedicated to the service of small vehicles.

The total number of vehicles inspected grew 11% to 422,000 in 2012. Small vehicles constituted more than 85% of the total vehicles inspected.

Fahes, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woqod, carried out remarkable improvement in the technical inspection process and simplification of procedures, which led to a significant reduction in time required for inspection.
"This in turn has led to dissolving of long waiting lines and decongestion of waiting halls at the Fahes service centres," the company said.

Woqod said four service stations at Rawdat Al Hamama, The Pearl, Abu Samra and West Mesaieed would be opened by the first quarter and another one at North Mesaieed by the
second quarter.

It is also expecting to complete the expansion of Al Hilal petrol station by the first quarter and Al Daayen by the second quarter.

Regarding the new petrol stations (which are in the design and schematic phase); they are proposed in Al Wajba, Al Jameleia, Al Qoteifia, Um Gharibah, Al Waseel, Hamad International Airport, Al Baladiyya in Al Usseiri area, Doha Port (for serving maritime vessels and ships), Northern City (Madinat Al Shimal), New Mesaimeer and Al Waseel City.

On its service centre project in Saudi Arabia, which has been delayed due to difficulties in getting approval from authorities concerned, Woqod said work is projected to start during the first quarter and to be completed by the end of the year.
