Damascus - Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri chaired on Wednesday a weekly Cabinet meeting, during which the Cabinet underlined the efforts exerted by President Bashar al-Assad to clear Arab atmospheres and reunite the nation, which showed positive results during the Doha summits regarding Arab reconciliation and solidarity and bolstering cooperation between Arab countries and South American countries.

Premier Otri stressed the importance of President al-Assad's speech at the Doha Summit, underlining its vision and clarity in setting the goals and priorities of Arab joint action, noting President al-Assad's affirmation to commitment to national and patriotic standards to confront the pressures and challenges facing the Arab nation.

Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem gave a political presentation on the issues discussed during the Doha Summit and their results regarding Arab solidarity and improving Arab-South American relations. He also reviewed the results of his visit to Baghdad and the issues he discussed with Iraqi officials in preparation for the upcoming meeting of the Syrian-Iraqi Higher Committee.

The Cabinet then discussed the results of the government's decision to reduce the price of fuel oil from SP 25 to SP 20 per liter, calling on onvolved Ministries to study the effects of this decision on the costs of industrial and agricultural production, transport and other fields and take the necessary steps in light of the studies.

The Cabinet also discussed a number of bills and legislations, approving a bill on approving agreements signed between Syria and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and a bill for approving the technical and scientific cooperation between Syria and Turkey in the field of forests and woodland studies.

The also discussed a bill for establishing independent centers at border crossing points, a memo from the Central Bank of Syria on the decisions taken to confront the results of the global financial crisis, and a memo from the Ministry of Electricity containing a study on the state of electricity consumption of household appliances.
