Tehran - As summer is coming to its end and raining is still scarce, water resources in most parts of the country are in condition yellow. Despite the arrangements made so far it seems the only way to cope with the water shortage is water consumption management.

Drought and lack of rainfall in the current calendar year (started March 21, 2014) has put some 517 cities in an even condition of water generation and consumption while 12 big cities with a population of about 23 million have experienced a critical water shortage.

The per capita consumption of water in the country is between 250 to 300 cubic meters which is high compared to international standards.

However, despite preventive patterns put forward by the authorities, water consumption is still taking an upward trend. To cope with the problem the Energy Ministry has offered a proposal to the cabinet ministers for cutting water supply of citizens who violate the consumption patterns.

Under the present circumstances, the only way to handle the crisis is to manage water consumption and failure in this effort will entail irreparable damage.
