Ramtha - A conference on medical 'war surgery' opened on Tuesday at the King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH), organised by the hospital and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide medical care to Syrians wounded in the country's civil war.
The conference brought together 55 Jordanian and Syrian doctors under the supervision of ICRC specialist surgeons in the treatment of war-wounded Syrians, according to KAUH Director, Dr. Ibrahim Bani Hani.
Coordinator of the ICRC's medical mission in Amman, Dr. Hussein Hawari said the gathering is aimed to raise the efficiency of Jordanian and Syrian doctors treating wounded Syrians in the Kingdom. He said participating doctors and other healthcare and technical staff will have the opportunity to be acquainted with the ICRC expertise in dealing with war injuries.
The two-day conference includes lectures and practical applications by the ICRC medical staff to update participants on surgery and anaesthetic techniques and how to deal with various injuries and care for the wounded in difficult situations in the war zone.
Participants will also be familiarised with the international humanitarian law that governs access to medical care in war time.
