Some 1 million tons of cement will be exported from West Azarbaijan province by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 20), the head of the provincial industries, mines and trade organization said.

Ebadollah Akbari said on Wednesday that three Portland and one clinker cement plants with the annual production capacity of 4.2 million tons and 150,000 tons respectively are operating in the province.

He added that some 790,000 tons of cement, worth $59.4 million were exported from the province during the past year, IRNA reported.

"Zanjan province exported some 539,000 tons of cement, valued at $43.5 million during the first six months of the current Iranian year," he said.

Akbari said Iraq, Turkey, Nakhchivan and Armenia are the main destinations for the province's cement exports.

He added that about one-fourth of the total cement production of the province are being exported.

Zanjan province, which accounted for 6.5 percent of Iran's total cement production, ranked sixth and fifth in the country in terms of the number of cement plants and their production volume respectively.
