Tejari, the online business-to-business marketplace has launched, with Jebel Ali Free Zone, authority the first Virtual Free Zone in Dubai. The move is aimed at developing e-commerce in Jebel Ali among the more than 5,000 companies located within JAFZA.

The virtual free zone will, among other things, allow the companies within JAFZA to send and receive trade leads, create online company profiles and product showrooms and find trading partners through the business to business platform set up by Tejari.

"Expanding to an online platform will enable organisations in Jebel Ali to widen their market potential and allow companies of all sizes to locate buyers and suppliers in a dynamic and cost-effective new medium," said Salma Hareb, chief executive officer of JAFZA.

The virtual free zone is the latest community portal developed by Tejari following the launch of CommuniTea, which is an online service from Dubai multi Commodities Centre for the tea sector.

"It is absolutely certain that there are promising trade opportunities within the region itself , of which JAFZA member companies may be unaware which can be uncovered quickly and affordably through the new virtual free zone, " said Omar Hijazi, CEO of Tejari.

The virtual free zone is expected to be operational later in 2006, development having already started.

It is expected that the development of the virtual free zone will save the 5,000 JAFZA member companies money and allow the online community to create new markets.
