A $1million vintage car museum was opened yesterday in Bahrain with 20 rare vehicles showcased by their Bahraini owner.
The Miknas Car Museum, owned by media multimillionaire Akram Miknas, is believed to be the first such museum in the GCC region.
"I have always been a passionate collector of antiques," said Miknas who pointed out that he started collecting classic cars 23 years ago when he bought a 1960 Chrysler New Yorker which is said to have been owned by Saudi Arabia's late King Saud. He went on to buy the Rolls Royce and Lamborghinis among other cars that make up the museum.
The museum, situated at the car park of Dana Mall, in central Manama, also includes a rare 1917 model T Ford, a 1913 Clement Bayard and a 1930 Ford model 'A' sports coupe.
The 20 cars are worth "around $1 million", he said adding that their "real value" was far greater."I believe the wheel is by far the most important invention of man," he told reporters at the opening ceremony, "and this is tribute to the creativity of mankind."
