DOHA: The Advisory Council has sought amendments in the draft human resource law in order to bring uniformity in the pay packages of all government employees in Qatar.
At its 37th session, the Council on Sunday approved recommendations on the draft law, prepared by its legal and legislative committee. The Council forwarded the draft law, along with its proposals, for approval by the Cabinet.
The Council sought an amendment in Article 20 of the draft law, so as to eliminate disparities in salary scales of the same category of employees working in various ministries and government departments. The Council also approved amendments recommended by an expert committee for Article 2, Article 56, Article 106 and Article 169.
The committee's recommendations were approved by a majority vote in the meeting, which was chaired by the Speaker, H E Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi.
"There are wide disparities in the salary scales of government employees both in the civil and military sectors. So the Council has proposed the amendment in the draft law," member Hamed Ali Ahbabi was quoted as saying by an Arabic daily.
The expert committee was assigned last month to study the draft law and come out with its recommendations. The committee held a series of meetings and some of them were attended by ministers. Some ministers pointed out in the meetings that an attempt to introduce a uniform salary scale for government employees was once made in Qatar but it failed during implementation.
