Unforgettable, a Hindi-language film starring newcomers Iqbal Khan and Alka Verma, was originally intended to be filmed in Ireland, but when its makers hit a road-block they decided to divert their team to Dubai.

“It was the best decision we ever made. We shot at Meydan, Index Towers and the desert. It went so smoothly and we promise to show Dubai like never before,” said producer Zafar Shah at its trailer launch on Wednesday. The tumultuous love story is scheduled to release in the UAE on June 12.

The Dubai-based hotelier, who shuttles between the UK and the UAE, said the filming was completed in 59 days.

“It’s a love triangle about a Dubai-based boy who is love with a rich girl here but then his parents have other plans for him and suggests that he marry the girl of their choice,” said Shah. The story may be far from original, but Shah claims that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will attend their Mumbai premiere next week.

“We got a message that he will be there. He has seen the trailer on Youtube and liked it. For our trailer launch in Mumbai, both Arbaaz and Sohail had attended it,” said Shah. Unforgettable is his first Bollywood production and was made on a modest Dh10million budget.

“It’s not a big film per se but we have put in a lot of hard work and we hope the viewers will have an unforgettable experience,” said Shah.

But wasn’t it safer to sign established Bollywood stars?

“There’s a risk involved with new faces. But our director Arshad Yousuf Pathan convinced us that Iqbal is the right choice.”

Meanwhile, Mumbai-based model Verma who plays a traditional girl in the love triangle says she was bowled over by Dubai.

“I love the roads, the hotels, the infrastructure of Dubai… Though we were all hard at work, we enjoyed every moment of our experience here,” said Verma. Director Arshad Yousuf Pathan and Iqbal Khan were absent at the UAE trailer launch.
