leader of a major Islamic Party on Thursday urged Muslim countries to unite for the liberation of holy Al-Quds.

Talking to IRNA with a reference to International Qods Day, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch condemned the atrocities of Zionist regime against the oppressed Palestinian people.

International Quds Day is an annual event opposing Zionists control of Beit ul-Muqaddas, also referered to as the Holy Qods (Jerusalem). Anti-Zionist demonstrations are held on this day in Muslim countries and around the world, but especially in Iran where the occasion was first suggested.

The Leader of the Iranian Islamic Revaluation Imam Khomeini (P) inaugurated the Qods day as an integral part of Ramadan so that the Muslims would never forget their responsibility and duty towards Palestine and all oppressed people of the world.

It is held each year on the last Friday of Ramadan.

Liaqat Baloch expressing his views said that 'the Al-Quds day reminds us that Al-Aqsa Mosque is still under the illegal occupation of Zionist regime'.

He added that Al-Aqsa being the first Qibla (direction towards which the Mulims pray God) of followers of Islam is very dear to Muslim around the world.

He added that Zionist regime would not be able to accomplish its evil designs against ther Muslims and soon the Holy Qods will be liberated.

Condemning the role of the United Nations and Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in resolving the issue of Palestine he said that these organizations have failed to protect the rights of Muslims.

He criticized the leadership of some Muslim countries saying that they have become tools in the hands of the US.

He added that the overall misery of the Muslims is due to the cooperation of some Muslim leaders with anti-Islam powers.

The religious leader demanded the Muslim Ummah to get united and initiate all-out efforts at political diplomatic and economic level to resolve the issue of Palestine.

"The Muslims should unite to strongly and condemn the brutalities of the Zionist regime on Palestinians", he added.

Liaqat Baloch urged the Muslims around the world to observe International Qods Day to support the legitimate rights of Muslims of Palestine.
