* Power prices drop on improved nuclear output

LONDON, March 13 (Reuters) - British wholesale natural gas prices edged up on Thursday morning as lower flows from Norway left the system undersupplied, despite low demand.

Gas prices for delivery the next day were trading at 58.65 pence a therm at 0945 GMT on Thursday, up 0.35 pence since the opening.

Traders said that the price rise was largely a result of lower flows from Norway.

"The system is short despite demand standing some 12 percent below the seasonal norm because of mild weather," one trader said.

Gas coming through the Langeled pipeline from Norway dropped from its maximum capacity of 70 million cubic metres (mcm) early on Thursday to 53 mcm at 0945 GMT.

Total gas flows in Britain were projected to be 232.9 mcm on Thursday, 14.4 mcm short of expected demand of 247.3 mcm, according to National Grid data.

Meteorologists said Britain's average temperatures were expected to rise from around the seasonal norm of 6-7 degrees Celsius towards 10 degrees over the weekend.

Prices further out on the curve also rose, with summer 2014 contracts up 0.3 pence to 58.3 pence a therm.

"With sterling continuing to lose value against the euro, prices further out on the curve are gaining ground," one gas trader said.

In the power sector, prices for baseload (24 hours) delivery the next day were down 3.30 pounds ($5.48) to 44.70 pounds per megawatt-hour (MWh).

Traders said the price drop was a result of the expected return of EDF Energy's 620 MW Hartlepool 2 nuclear unit to the grid on Thursday combined with the typically lower demand on Fridays and mild weather.
