DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Telecommunications Co., or Etisalat, said Monday that it launched 3G services in Afghanistan, the first to offer such services in the country.
Etisalat, in an Arabic emailed statement, said that the service launch came four years after it started its mobile operations in Afghanistan. Etisalat Afghanistan is a 100% owned subsidiary of Etisalat Group, according to Zawya.com data.
The telco in December introduced mobile financial services in Afghanistan--called mHawala, as it saw a revenue opportunity in the country's poorly developed financial services sector.
Etisalat shares closed flat on Monday at AED9.33.
