The UAE University (UAEU) and the Bahria (Naval) University of Pakistan yesterday explored avenues of cooperation to benefit from each others experiences.

The possibilities of cooperation were discussed at a meeting headed by Vice Admiral (retired) Fayyaz Ur Rehman, Rector of the Bahira University in Islamabad, and Dr Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the UAEU.

Dr Al Noaimi briefed Vice Admiral Rehman on the history of the university, academic system, standard of education, and educational programmes it offers to UAE students.

He also expressed his willingness for cooperation with the Pakistani university, saying that both the UAE and Pakistan are enjoying brotherly relations in political, social and economic fields.

Vice Admiral Rehman also shed light on the brief history of the Bahria University established three years ago. He showed his interest in developing cooperation in different fields, particularly in the exchange of expertise, knowledge and experience, with the UAEU.

The Pakistani delegation also visited various colleges of the UAEU including the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Informa-tion Technology, and Faculty of Medicines and Health Sciences.

Vice Admiral Rehman said Bahria University was established through a Presidential order in February 2000 for the promotion of academic excellence through a system that best suits the national requirements.

The university, which has its head office in Islamabad, also has several campuses and units in other cities such as Karachi and Lahore.

These include the Pakistan Naval Academy Karachi, PN (Pakistan Naval) War College Lahore, Bahria Institutes of Management and Computer Sciences in Karachi and Islamabad, the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Scien-ces in Islamabad, the Instit-ute of Professional Psychology at PNS SHIFA, Karachi, and Bahria Colleges in Karachi and Islamabad. The university has been running on self-finance basis without depending on government grants.
