Damam, May 18th, 2008(WAM)--The UAE has officially joined the GCC power grid in its current phase, it was announced here today.
Yousef Ahmed Janahi, Director of Planning at the Qatari Water and Electricity Corporation said in remarks here today that the UAE has fulfilled its financial obligations as provided for in the relevant agreements. The draft of the multilateral power grid agreement is ready and will be sent to GCC secretariat, he said. The $1.6 billion project is being carried out in three phases, with the entire grid system connecting the six Gulf Arab states set to be completed by 2010. Phase one of the project will link the grids of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. The second phase will connect the UAE and Oman to create the South Grid, and the North and South grids will be connected in the phase three.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2008.
