DUBAI -- Intel, has colaborated with Redline Communications, a standards-based broadband wireless equipment provider, to develop WIMAX, a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-tech broadband connections over long distances. WIMAX can be used for a number of applications , including "last mile" broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul and high speed enterprise connectivity for business.

The demonstration of the new devise included an outdoor connection to the Dubai Internet City (DIC) some 20 km away, demonstrating how WIMAX technology will help cities become unwired over the coming years. "Connectivity and communications are essential in successful business, through the launch of WIMAX we paved the way for our business partners to discover its potential asa broadband wireless technology," Jamal Abdul Salam, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, told reporters at Gitex yesterday. Majed Sifri, President and CEO of Redline Communications, views WIMAX's exposure at Gitex beneficial for future cooperations. "Several major carriers in the Middle East and surrounding regions are now planning deployments of WIMAX networks using our RedMAX solution. This demonstration gives the public the opportunity to experience the potential of WIMAX", he said. Intel, the world's largest chip maker, high-end manufacturer of computer, networking and communication products, has joint-ventured with Redline Communications, featuring over 15,000 installations in 75 countries across six continents,  in the launch of WIMAX.
