ABU DHABI -- The Higher Colleges of Technology is gearing up to welcome the international student community that will be converging on the capital for the 'e-ducation without Borders' conference.
Slated to kick-start from 19 of this month, the three- day international student's conference will tout the theme 'E-learning through the eyes of the world: Responsible development and desired role.' An impressive line-up of speakers from around the world will address the audience throwing light on various topics related to the theme.
"The preparations are underway in full swing as we are making the last minute arrangements to organise the event," said Bret Mathesonn, President, World Student organisation Committee, during a Press conference held on Wednesday at the Abu Dhabi Men's College (ADMC), which will play host to the conference.
The third year, 'education without borders' conference is expected to attract more than 500 students from all over the world to inspire their interests in life-long learning.
Elaborating on the preparations, the student committee members from the ADMC said that a team of 70 student volunteers have been trained to deal with the visitors.
"If the first two conferences were held under the patronage of Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late president of UAE, this year we are dedicating the event to his memories," added Bret.
Thanking all the sponsors of the event, the students expressed hope that the conference replete with debates, technological demonstrations and paper presentations will give them a first hand experience in organising complex events while learning about the impact of e-learning on the global education community.
As more and more countries become information-based societies, the terms globalisation and information and communication technology are no longer buzzwords, but rather daily realities changing the way people live, work and learn.
However in a world where a technological divide and imbalances in resource distribution are still apparent, many countries have a long way to go before transforming into knowledge based economies.
In this context, the 'e-ducation without borders' conference will explore the role of education in general and e-learning in particular in helping countries to maximise their potential. "As the students of today become the leaders of our increasingly interconnected global society, the state of the world truly rests in their hands. This conference necessarily promotes the necessary understanding that will enable the world to operate as one community," said the organisers.
