Two students of Zayed University have developed a project for the safety of children in vehicles.

According to the university, the College of Communication and Media Sciences students, Moza Al Shamsi and Sara Al Marzouqi, designed the Capstone project of Child Car Seat Safety Campaign with the support of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), which will display it at all its petrol stations all over the UAE.

The project has been developed with the aim to strengthen awareness among individuals.

The students presented their project to Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Education and President of the university during the Capstone Festival in Abu Dhabi last month.

Sara and Moza also gave a presentation to Dr Hanif Hassan, Vice- President of the university, and Jamal Al Dhathrif, Distribution Director and Ebrahim Al Za'abi, PR Director of Adnoc.

Moza said: "The purpose of the project is to increase the awareness of the community and individuals with the importance of child car seats."

She assured that child safety car seats can reduce the risk of a potentially fatal injury and death by 69 per cent for babies younger than one-year-old and by 47 per cent for one to four-year-old children.

There are three types of car seats: Rear-Facing Infant Seat, which is used for a new born up to one-year-old; the Forward-Facing Child Seat, used for a child weighing from 10kg to 18kg and generally from one to four years; and the Booster Seat, used for children weighing more than 22 kg, generally aged four to eight.
