Two heavy vehicle drivers killed in head-on collision

Ras Al Khaimah: Two Asian drivers were pronounced dead after their trucks collided on Al Saedi Street.

A senior officer at the Traffic and Licensing Department said an Indian and a Pakistani driver died at the accident scene.

The officer stressed that the two heavy vehicles were found with major damages after the accident and the authorities had to use hydraulic cutters to recover the two drivers bodies.

The officer said that the body of Pakistani driver Mohammad Sharif, and the Indian driver Mihar Shlind were taken to Saqr Hospital. The bodies will be delivered to the men's families for burial.

The accident took place after the Pakistani driver of a Dubai registered heavy vehicle got off his lane after he lost control of the steering wheel and ran into another Dubai registered vehicle driven by the Indian driver as it approached from the opposite side of the street.

The two drivers had a full-frontal collision while they were speeding, causing the death of the men upon impact. The cabins of the vehicles were badly destroyed after they overturned several times.

The accident was reported to authorities who summoned a civil defence force to cut the doors and retrieve the bodies. Authorities initiated an investigation into the accident and moved the destroyed vehicles from the street, which had to be closed for several hours.

The officer stressed that the number of traffic violations registered against heavy vehicles tops all other vehicle categories in the emirate.
