DOHA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul is expected here on an official visit in the first week of February, the visiting Defense Minister of Turkey, Vecdi Gonul, told reporters here yesterday.
Gonul who arrived in Doha on a visit from Manama, called on with members of his accompanying delegation The Heir Apparent,
H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Emiri Diwan.
The meeting was attended by Major-General Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces, H E Director of
H H The Heir Apparent's Office, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Mithat Rende.
Gonul described the meeting as fruitful and said it focused on bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of defense. Qatar and Turkey share similar views on key political and regional issues, he said.
According to the Minister, Turkey is keen to further improve relations with the GCC states. Relations between Doha and Ankara have deepened over the past few years and the two countries have exchanged the visits of high-level delegations, he said.
The Emir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, paid an official visit to Turkey and the Turkish President's proposed visit is reciprocal, said the visiting minister.
