Tunisia, Sept. 26th, 2010 (WAM) -- The First Lady of Tunisia Mrs. Leila Ben Ali, Chairperson of the Arab Women Organization (AWO), presented the organization's shield to Shamsa bint Hazeem Al Muhairi, Chancellor of Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of UAE General Women's Union and Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation.

Al Muhairi was honored on the occasion of the Arab Day for the Elderly, which is being celebrated for the first time on the proposal of spouse of the Tunisian President.

The award came in recognition of the efforts of Al Muhairi, considering her one of the Arab women pioneers in the field of development and volunteer work.

The investiture ceremony took place during the opening of the Arab symposium yesterday under the theme of "For a Better Reality for Elderly in the Arab region."UAE Ambassador to Tunisia, Abdullah Ibrahim Ghanem Al Suwaidi on the occasion said that this honouring is a testimony of respect and appreciation for the generous efforts made by the United Arab Emirates and H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in various fields.
