Saudi Arabian developer Red Sea Global, wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has secured the license to operate its water aerodrome on Ummahat Island at The Red Sea destination.

The permit is the first to be granted for a water aerodrome in the Kingdom and represents a significant boost for the Saudi aviation sector, the company said in a statement.

RSG is the multi-project developer behind Saudi's tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala.

The license was announced just days after the Saudi developer launched its seaplane company, Fly Red Sea. Also a first in the kingdom, the seaplane company will transport guests to the Red Sea’s island resorts.

“Now, with this license, we are ready to transport guests across crystal-clear waters to the Red Sea’s island resorts,” said John Pagano, Group CEO at RSG.

RSG also received an air operator certificate from the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) for its seaplane company, as well as a license to provide security operation services.
