In a bid to boost internal tourism the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with hospitality establishments has launched a wide campaign that include reducing hotel tariffs with the aim of drawing more tourists and visitors and highlighting the Sultanate's tourism destinations.
Dhofar Governorate during the Khareef season constitutes the number 1 choice for a good number of tourists in addition to Jabal Akhdhar, Jabal Shams, Ras al Hadd, the beaches in Masirah and Wusta where tourists can enjoy cool weather in the middle of summer. Dhofar Governorate has several tourism sites such as Raysut beach and corridors, Taqa, Mirbat, Mugsail cave as well as the heritage sites.
Salalah city boasts a number of hotels; Crown Plaza, Marriott, Hilton Salalah and Hamilton Plaza situated close to the Municipality Recreation Centre in addition to Samharam apartment hotels on the beach adjacent to the Hamilton Salalah Hotel, this is an integrated tourism village equipped with ample entertainment facilities.
Salalah markets are known for being a mix of modernity and tradition where tourists can find all sorts of handicraft industries, traditional wares and unique masterpieces made of silver and gold and other materials. The most well-known of these is Al Haffa Souq, where the best kinds of frankincense are sold.
The Ministry of Tourism is promoting Dhofar as a place for tourism not only during the Khareef season but also all through the year as this part of the country boasts huge tourism potentials that qualify the governorate to become a permanent tourism destination.
