KUWAIT, June 14 (KUNA) --
1920 -- The building of the third wall protecting Kuwait begins, just two weeks after the battle of Humdh which broke out during the rule of Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the ninth ruler of Kuwait. Most people of Kuwait participate in the construction of the wall, which takes place in the holy month of Ramadan.
1968 -- The Pioneers' Diwaniya (traditional gathering place for men) is inaugurated.
1980 -- Abdulaziz Al-Adsani is elected Municipality Mayor and Mohammad Al-Muoshirji is elected as his deputy.
1998 -- Cabinet approves a draft law on organizing direct foreign capital investment in Kuwait.
2000 -- The Union of Kuwaiti Women Societies gains a special advisory status at the UN Economic and Social Council.
2002 -- Kuwait Ports Authority cancels all tariffs levied on commercial vessels anchoring at Kuwaiti ports. Kuwait is the only regional state which does not collect tariffs on vessels docking at its ports.
2005 -- Deputy Amir, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issues a decree appointing Dr. Maasouma Al-Mubarak as Minister of Planning and Minister of State for Administrative Development. Al-Mubarak is the country's first female cabinet member.
2005 -- Deputy Amir, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issues a decree appointing six Municipal Council members, and for the first time these include two women and they are Eng. Fatima Saud Al-Sabah and Eng. Fouziya Mohammad Al-Bahar.
