KUWAIT CITY: General Coordinator and Ahmadi Demolition Team Leader Duaij Al-Senafie said the team has suspended its activities in Mina Abdullah scrapyard in compliance with the directive of the National Assembly to stop the demolition until the end of discussions between the Complaints and Petition Committee and Commerce Ministry in this regard, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Senafie affirmed the team has demolished over 50 percent of illegal structures within its jurisdiction. He said the team is now waiting for the outcome of the meeting, adding they served notification letters to several buildings owned by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) on the resumption of their activities next Sunday. He reiterated that the area where the KOC buildings are located is full of illegal structures, particularly diwaniyas and livestock pens. He disclosed the team has identified illegal structures for demolition next week.
Asserting the team has dismantled a number of illegal structures in Arifjan except a 400 square meter US military structure which they have been discussing with officials in charge, Al-Senafie stated "we removed 145 structures in Ali Al Salem on Wednesday, increasing the total number of demolished structures to 468, in addition to 148 tents in private buildings."
Meanwhile, acting State Minister for Municipality Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar has approved some decisions of the Council of Ministers and rejected others, reports Al-Seyassah daily. According to a reliable source, the minister has rejected a decision to allocate land measuring 7,000 square meters in Mangaf area for the establishment of a private school and parking lots. He also turned down the request for a six-month grace period to amend the status of prohibited commercial activities in private residential areas. He said the minister is also against the council's decision to convert Hajj City in Jahra to a Kuwaiti military camp, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training's (PAAET) request for a temporary license for the construction of workers accommodation in Sulaibiya.
The minister also urged the council to amend texts of recommendations from members on assigning the administration to investigate irregularities found in construction transactions in Farwaniya and other regions, the source revealed.
