Damascus - The General Company of Tartous Harbor and the Venice Harbor Authority signed on Sunday a commercial and technical cooperation agreement.
The agreement aims at bolstering economic and tourist cooperation, facilitating movements between the two harbors, and exchanging expertise in technical, administrative, legal, environmental and engineering fields.
Minister of Transport Yarub Suleiman Badr underlined the importance of the agreement and its role in bolstering Syrian-Italian commercial and economic relations, noting that Syrian harbors witnessed a considerable increase in activitiy in 2009 in comparison to 2008, with a 12% increase in the amount of goods passing through them.
In turn, Head of the Venice Harbor Authority Paulo Costa said that the two countries' strategic geographic location will help develop relations between Europe and the Middle East and the Arab Gulf.
The agreement was signed by Director General of the General Company of Tartous Harbor Zaki Ezzedin Najib and Head of the Venice Harbor Authority Paulo Costa.
