DAMMAM: The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and the Saudi Arabian Seaports Authority have discussed the possibility of reopening the shipping line linking Bahrain and Al-Khobar.

Dr. Essam Abdullah Fahkru, the chamber's chairman met with Hasan Ali Al-Majed, Director General of the Saudi Seaports Authority, and stressed the importance of considering this issue. There is a growing trade and heavy passenger traffic between the Kingdom and Bahrain and it is thought that the shipping link would reduce congestion on the King Fahd Causeway by reducing the number of trucks, said Dr. Fahkru.

Al-Majed has welcomed the idea, pointing out that the reopening the line would need some arrangements including a study to determine the types of ships that would use the shipping line.
