NEW YORK, Nov 5 (Reuters) - CME GroupCME.O has provided U.S. regulators with new estimates for "deliverable physical supplies" of key commodities amid a fresh push to clamp down on excessive speculation. The estimates, made earlier this year and submitted to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission this summer, show the existing "accountability limits" - firm but not legally binding maximums set by exchanges - are significantly tighter than the CFTC's proposed spot-month position limits at 25 percent of a given commodity's underlying physical supply. The CME also said that allowing much higher "condition limits" for contracts that are cash-settled - rather than settled with physical delivery, as most of the CME's main futures are - was a "dangerous idea." The CFTC's new position limits rule allows traders to hold cash-settled limits at five times the normal spot-month limit.
