Abu Dhabi, Mar. 2, 2006 (WAM) -- Deputy Prime Ministerand Chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club (EHC), Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, witnessed here today at the Bu-zeib village, the Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan Endurance Horse Race Challenge, being organised by the EHC in collaboration with the UAE Equestrian Association.
One hundred contestants from the UAE, Arab and foreign countries took part in the 100 kilometre race, which was run infour stages of 30 kms, 30 kms, 24kms and 16kms respectively with a compulsory break time of 30 minutes between the 1st and the 2ndstages and 40 minutes each between the 2nd and the 3rd, and the 3rd and the 4th stages.
Cash prizes totalling AED211,000 and material prizes weredistributed to winners of the race which was won by Omair Hussein Al Balloushi from the Al Reef stable. Hamad Rashid Al Kamyouji from the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed stable placed 2nd to bag-in the second prize, while Laila Abdul Aziz Redha from the Abdul Aziz Redha stable took home the third prize.
Other frontrunners in the race took home various cash and kind prizes for their good performance
