Dubai: A solar power tracker is to be unveiled at Knowledge Village soon.

A solar power tracker is a pivoting solar panel which faces the sun, absorbs light and transforms it into electrical energy.

Switchpower, a Swedish renewable energy company has donated the tracker to Tecom. Andrew Machirant, head of business development with Switchpower, said he was happy to see that progress is being made despite the delay.

The installation process is being executed in stages.

"Local technical staff needs to be informed, briefed and trained in the installation process which is causing some delay over and beyond difficulties with local subcontractors. It should be noted, however, that this is an important part in the knowledge transfer that Switchpower has committed itself to in this project on behalf of Tecom and Enpark," said Machirant.

"One of Switchpower's main objectives is to provide first-hand experience on the ground with the technical aspects of this type of technologically advanced installation," he said.

Once the foundation is set the mast will be bound to it, on which the base frame will be mounted to carry thirty 185 watt solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.

"Following the mechanical installation, our engineers will supervise the electrical installation and final connection of the tracker," Machirant added.
