Smart Cricket Club overwhelmed Farooq Restaurant's Unity Cricket Club by 76 runs in the ongoing ECMIT Champlain College Trophy for XII Sharjah Floodlit Cricket Tournament (B Division).
The 30 overs night tournament is sponsored by Emirates Center for Management and Information Technology (ECMIT) and organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
An opening stand of 135 runs between man of the match Qadeer and Ali Arshad paved the way for the big win as Smart posted 229 for 4 in 30 overs.
Qadeer 74 (61b, 11x4 and 2x6) and Arshad 80 (7x4) played well while Afzal 34 (3x6) swelled the total with some lusty hitting.
Qadeer followed his excellent batting with a match-winning bowling performance to return with impressive figures of four for 23 after two early wickets had put the rivals under considerable pressure in the beginning.
Already reeling under the weight of the big total, Unity were all out for 153 in 24 overs. One drop Mumtaz 48 put up a strong resistance in company of opener Mohsin (22). Once their partnership was broken the innings disintegrated.
