The first international Islamic conference on the Prophet's (PBUH) way of guidance and instruction will open today at the InterContinental Hotel.
The six-day conference will start after Tarawih prayers and host a number of eminent scholars from around the world. They will speak about issues relating to the true nature of Islam that calls for forgiveness and tolerance.
Nakhira Al Daheri, Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Awqaf, said yesterday the conference, held under the patronage of President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, showed the UAE's commitment to fighting terrorism.
The conference is open to everyone and residents are encouraged to listen to the lectures and take part in debates. All lectures and speeches will be dictated in English for non-Arabic speakers and some of the most important lectures will be aired on television.
Mansoor Al Minhali, director of Islamic Affairs at the ministry, said the conference aims to bring people back to Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) approach towards Islam that calls for forgiveness, acceptance and tolerance.
Dr. Alarabi Al Kashat, Supervisor of the Masjid Al Dawa in Paris, said the conference comes at a critical time because Muslims are being looked at as terrorists. "The conference should be a time for Muslims and non-Muslims to exchange opinions and diffuse wrong opinions some people have about Islam," he said.
