MUSCAT — Shell Oman Marketing Company SAOG, in its continuing endeavour to increase public awareness about road safety, joins the Royal Oman Police in observing AGCC Traffic Week from today to March 26. The five-day programme will focus on the importance of traffic rules, safety and security.
This is the second year of cooperation between Shell Oman and the ROP in their efforts to make this unique programme a success. As a respected and responsible corporate citizen, Shell Oman has always taken firm initiatives to participate and promote such important programmes.
“It’s a conscious and preventive effort aimed at ensuring better safety on roads for motorists and pedestrians,” said a senior official from Shell Oman Marketing Company.
With a network of 117 strategically located service stations in the Sultanate, Shell Oman touches the lives of almost everybody. With such a large customer base, Shell Oman contributes towards the safety and well-being of the Sultanate’s driving population by emphasising the importance of traffic rules, safety and security and ensuring maximum participation across the country in the ROP-AGCC Traffic Week.
During the week, the ROP will set up safety checkpoints at different locations across the Sultanate where its personnel will distribute leaflets on road safety and vehicles will be checked for safety. Vehicles passing the safety parameters will be awarded ‘Safe Vehicle’ stickers. To add momentum to the programme, Shell Oman is setting up free ‘20-point safety check’ facilities at 10 Shell Helix retail sites across the Sultanate.
Motorists are encouraged to bring their vehicles and take advantage of the opportunity. Vehicles will be checked for safety, and those passing the safety parameters will be given a ‘Safe Vehicle’ stickers.
To promote ROP-AGCC Traffic Week, a nationwide raffle draw is being sponsored by Shell Oman and Al Hashar & Company (Nissan).
Participants in the raffle draw can win a Nissan X-Trail, the latest 4WD from Nissan. Raffle coupons for the draw are available in the road safety leaflets at the Shell retail sites and the ROP safety checkpoints across Oman.
To communicate the message of road safety to the future motorists, Shell Oman is sponsoring a nationwide children’s painting competition. The theme for the paintings is ‘Traffic rules, safety and security’ and children are encouraged to express their views on road safety and submit their entries to Shell Oman where attractive prizes await the most creative entries.
For the message on driver safety to reach all the web-cruisers, a special Internet quiz provides driver safety information and the chance for the participants to win Shell Prepaid Fuel Cards worth RO10. To participate, one needs to log on to the Shell Oman website — www.shelloman.com.om — and answer a few simple questions on road safety to win everyday during the five-day Traffic Safety Week.
Road safety is equally important for everyone. The initiatives taken by the ROP are truly commendable and the support of leading corporate houses such as Al Hashar & Group (Nissan) with cooperation of Shell Oman Marketing Company meet the objectives of ROP-AGCC Traffic Week.
