Abu Dhabi, Nov 13th, 2008 (WAM): President of the Arab Woman Organisation (AWO) HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak called on a number of First Ladies of various Arab countries who are in Abu Dhabi to attend the second biennial conference of the AWO.
Sheikha Fatima visited paid a visit to Sheikha Sabeekah Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of Bahrain and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Woman. They discussed issues pertaining to women and empowerment. Sheikha Fatima also called on the Egyptian First Lady Suzan Mubarak at her residence at the Emirates Palace Hotel, and discussed with her the progress of the AWO conferenceLater, Sheikha Fatima visited Ameena Abbas, wife of Palestinian President, at her residence and held talks with her on issues of security of Palestinian women. Ameena Abbas explained to Sheikha Fatima the daily struggle of Palestinian women, who live in deprivation since several decades. She also portrayed the resistance of Palestinian women against the Israeli occupation and the atrocities and violence unleashed by Israeli government. She also expressed gratitude to Sheikha Fatima for her steadfastness and solidarity with the Palestinian people, which played a great role in alleviating their sufferings. Sheikha Fatima was accompanied by Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Deputy Prime Minister HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikha AlYazia Bint Saif Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Later, Sheikha Fatima received Dr. Huda Fathi Salem Bin Amir, Secretary for Women Affairs at the Secretariat of General Peoples Congress of Libya. Dr. Huda expressed her appreciation and gratitude to Sheikha Fatima for her support to the march of Arab woman into progress and revival. They discussed ways for enhancing cooperation between woman movements in both countries. The meeting was also attended by Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Deputy Prime Minister HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikha AlYazia Bint Saif Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
